If you own a pool, you&#8217;re probably aware of the maintenance and care that&#8217;s involved. But have you considered taking that extra step to make sure it&#8217;s safe for your kids?<\/span><br \/>\n<span><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span>According to the American Red Cross, more than 200 young children drown in backyard swimming pools each year. That&#8217;s pretty scary to think about. And if you&#8217;re a parent, that&#8217;s your worst nightmare. Luckily, there&#8217;s ways you can prevent a tragedy from happening in your backyard by following these guidelines from the American Red Cross:<\/span><br \/>\n<span><br \/>\n<\/span><span>Secure your pool when it&#8217;s not in use with a 4-feet high fence or barrier. Also, remember to remove any ladders or steps used for access.<\/span><br \/>\n<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Make sure children are being supervised at all times. Do not allow anyone to swim alone, and have inexperienced swimmers wear a U.S. Coast <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Guard-approved life jacket.<\/span><br \/>\n<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Maintain proper chemical levels, circulation and filtration. This will leave your water clean and clear, and minimize the risk of rashes or more serious diseases.<\/span><br \/>\n<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Establish safe practices, such as \u00abno diving,\u00bb \u00abstay away from drain covers\u00bb and \u00abswim with a buddy.\u00bb<\/span><br \/>\n<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Make sure everyone in the home knows how to respond to emergencies by having the appropriate safety equipment and taking first aid and CPR courses.<\/span><br \/>\n<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another safety feature you can install is a pool alarm. It sits at the edge of your pool, and when someone falls in, a pressure wave will cause the alarm to go off.
